Northland Rugby Welcomes Hamish Sutherland as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

Northland Rugby is pleased to announce the addition of Hamish Sutherland to our high-performance team as the new Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Hamish will be playing a key role in the development of our Women’s High Performance, Academy, and High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ) athletes, working closely under the expert guidance of James Doyle.

Hamish is no stranger to Northland Rugby, having recently spent a week with our NPC team as part of his personal development. His dedication and expertise left a lasting impression, making it an easy decision to bring him on board in an official capacity. His appointment marks an exciting step forward for our strength and conditioning programme, reinforcing our commitment to providing our athletes with the best possible support.

With a strong background in rugby-specific strength and conditioning, Hamish brings a wealth of experience to Northland Rugby. In 2024, he has made a significant impact across multiple high-performance environments. His recent roles include providing interim support for the Black Ferns Canterbury Hub, covering the Canterbury Women’s Farah Palmer Cup (FPC) programme, and serving as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for Matatū in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. This diverse experience across elite women’s rugby programmes has equipped him with a well-rounded skill set and a deep understanding of the demands of high-performance sport.

James Doyle, Head of Athletic Performance at Northland Rugby, shared his excitement about Hamish’s appointment, stating: “We’re excited to welcome Hamish Sutherland as our new FPC Strength & Conditioning Coach! With his expertise and passion for athletic performance, Hamish will be a key part of driving our squad forward.”
