Kicking Off with a Ranfurly Shield Challenge
The Taniwha kick off their 2025 campaign with a massive opportunity – a Ranfurly Shield challenge against the Taranaki Bulls in New Plymouth on August 2. It’s a chance to make history and bring the Shield back to Northland, so expect a fierce contest to start the season.
Returning to Whangārei for Home Games
The first home game of the season is set for August 8, when Northland takes on the Southland Stags at Semenoff Stadium. This one is personal – we’re looking to settle the score after last year’s disappointing loss to Southland. The following week, on August 16, the Tasman Mako come to town, and we all remember what happened the last time they visited – an epic upset win for the Taniwha. Can we do it again?
Battles on the Road and Key Rivalries
Northland heads to Auckland on August 23 to face our big-city neighbors at Eden Park, a fixture that always brings plenty of passion. Then, on August 30, the Magpies of Hawke’s Bay fly north to take on the Taniwha in Whangārei.
On September 5, we travel down south to Dunedin for a clash with Otago, followed by a homecoming on September 11 as the Wellington Lions visit Semenoff Stadium. The Battle of the North continues on September 21 when we take on North Harbour at their home ground in Albany – expect an intense contest as we fight to prove who truly owns the North!
A Huge Finish to the Regular Season
The final stretch of the season brings another home game on September 28 against Canterbury, a team packed with talent and history. Finally, the Taniwha wrap up the regular season in Hamilton, facing the Waikato Mooloos on October 4.
Let’s Back the Taniwha in 2025!
It’s shaping up to be an incredible season, and we need every Northlander in the stands, creating an electric atmosphere at Semenoff Stadium. Let’s pack the stands, back the boys, and make 2025 a season to remember!
