Winning Weekend for Women's Rugby

It was a big day under the mountain in Inglewood at TET Stadium & Events Centre with the Northland vs Taranaki double-headeron Saturday 28th September. It was a celebration of Women's Rugby with two of the newest Unions going head to head.

The Under 18s got the day underway and the long travel day on Friday didn't seem to hamper them as they played some open, running rugby to take the game 65-14. The game was an exciting contest and shouldn't be judged on the final score.

The Farah Palmer Cup sides were up next, and while the sun shined it was the windy conditions that made the game a bit difficult for the northerners. It was always going to be a tough battle as the two newest FPC teams took it to each other but a number of small errors from both sides made it hard to set a platform, with the Kauri taking a 10-0 lead into the half. The Whio came out strong in the 2nd half, but it was the Kauri that were able to keep their noses ahead to claim a 22-12 win.

Big thanks to Femme Rugby for live stream of the 18s match, and Taranaki Rugby for the FPC game.

Catch the next Northland Farah Palmer Cup game when we take on Tasman at Trigg Stadium on Saturday 5th October, kick off at 2pm.
