Northland Rugby are pleased to announce that our Sub-Union Development Groups have been chosen for 2023. The purpose of the Sub-Union Development Groups is to identify potential athletes and provide a pathway for U16-U18 players to better their skills with an introduction to performance environment.

Each of the development groups are run by their respective Rugby Development Officer – with each programme having many common elements, but also some individual elements that each RDO customises to suit their particular group.

The programme runs for 8 weeks within each sub-union, covering key skill areas – Run Catch Pass, Tackle, and Ball into contact. There is also a fitness and technical/tactical element.

The goal is to provide a platform for players to go onto Academy, Blue’s age grade, Northland Rep Teams and beyond. Giving players a higher level of engagement outside of their club trainings to foster their growth and build capability within Northland Age grade rugby.
